GOOGLE ULTRAFAST BROADBAND TO THE HOME

GOOGLE is planning a test of an ultrafast fiber-optic broadband Internet Service to the Home. These will be NEW fiber pulls that will deliver about 1 Gigabit/second right to your living room. That is just outrageously fast. I have a high end Comcast service of 7 Megsbits per second, which I have been very impressed. ATT and Comcast are talking about deploying 100 Megabit service sometime in the future. Pricing has not been set, but Google is talking about competitive local rates I am guessing will be lower than $100/month.

So when can you expect to see the Google trenching team running a line to your house of condo... well, you probably won't for a very long time as Google is being very selective in its selection of neighbor hoods. There is a nomination questionnaire that Google has setup, and with all of the buzz in the tech community, I am certain they can expect a large turn out.

What is the motivation for Google? Why have the other providers not cracked the 100Megbit speed yet? Why is it that the US lags the rest of the world, including many third world nations, in internet speed? For that matter, what about wireless broadband... Stay tuned... I have my theories.
